By using the DSB you agree to the terms in this usage agreement:
Art Department Checkout Agreement Form: Before you are allowed to print or check out printers you must Fill out the Online google form, UMN Art Dept Checkout Agreement Form. Only students who have filled out the form are allowed to be in the DSB, no tag-alongs, friends, or other visitors.
Find the form here.
Reservations: Although you may walk in to print in the DSB, to ensure there is a printer available we recommend you make a reservation at: https://checkout.cla.umn.edu/sso/patron#!/ . You must fill out the UMN Art Dept Checkout Agreement Form (above) before you can access the checkout site.
Food and Beverages: Food and beverages cannot be in the DSB.
There is a counter where they can be left while working.
Paper Available in the DSB: We carry coated Epson Luster, Epson Matte, and Transparency material available for purchase to use in the printers. We do not sell paper without it being printed on. Only specific printers may use non-coated papers (non-photo papers). These printers are labeled “Experimental.” Papers like Rives BFK, rice paper, etc. may be used ONLY in these printers.
Please no newsprint.
Bringing Outside Paper: You may bring your own paper but it must be verified as safe for the printers by a DSB Assistant. Coated papers for inkjet printers may be used on any DSB printers. Non-coated papers may only be used on the experimental printers. DSB staff is not responsible for knowing how every outside paper reacts to our printers. For example, some papers require a longer drying time before the image looks finished and the color is accurate. Due to this, if you bring your own paper you are required to pay for your prints even if they don't look the way you anticipated.
Computer Use: The DSB is not a general computer-use room. Please prepare your files off site and be prepared to print during your reservation. If you are editing files, vs. printing, you may be asked to leave if someone ready to print needs a printing station. The DSB is also not a Photoshop or digital software tutoring center. DSB Assistants assist with printing - not file editing.
Mistakes: Mistakes involving user error (things that are covered in the printing directions by each computer) will be charged for. Mistakes involving the printer (clogged heads, etc.) will not be charged for if the DSB Assistant is notified right away. If multiple prints are made because of a fault with the printer you won’t be charged for the first print, but will be charged for all other prints made after it. If your print does not look correct out of the printer, talk to the DSB Assistant right away.
Test Strips: The first two test strips you make for each print will not be charged for, although we do need to track those test strips. Test strips beyond the first two will be charged for.
Before Leaving the DSB: Students must check out with the DSB Assistant to count the prints they made.
This includes test strips and all mistakes.
Payment: Any payment for prints must be made BEFORE the user leaves the DSB with the prints. Students may pay with check, credit card or gopher gold. NO CASH. All prints must be paid for even if you decide you don’t like the print once printed, do not use it for class, or the print is damaged while you are handling it.
Failure to follow these instructions or instructions given by DSB attendants, technicians, or instructors will result in loosing DSB privileges.
